The Guardian’s poll tracker has Harris ahead by one point in the state.
Harris spoke in Erie, a county that is one of the state’s most reliable bellwethers – its “boomerang” electorate has backed the election winner in the last four races. Harris played clips from Trump’s recent media appearances and condemned his call for the military to be deployed against opponents he labelled “the enemy within”. “He considers anyone who doesn’t support him, or who will not bend to his will, an enemy of our country,” Harris said at the rally. “This is among the reasons I believe so strongly that a second Trump term would be a huge risk for America”.
Trump meanwhile took questions from voters at a town hall in Philadelphia, but was twice interrupted by medical emergencies in the room. The former president then called for the event to be turned into a “musical-fest” and it continued with Trump standing on stage for 40 minutes, swaying to hits from his campaign playlist – including Hallelujah, November Rain and Nothing Compares 2 U – before walking off into the crowd. Fox News reporter Bryan Llenas called it a “very strange Trump Town Hall”. Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung called it a “love fest” and “something very special”.

The White House said on Monday that the United States has been closely tracking Iranian threats against Trump for years and it warned of “severe consequences” if Tehran was to attack any US citizen. “We consider this a national and homeland security matter of the highest priority, and we strongly condemn Iran for these brazen threats. Arab Americans in Michigan are deserting Democrats over Gaza, according to reports. The Arab American Political Action Committee said on Monday it could not endorse Harris or Trump, citing what it called their “blind support” for Israel in wars in Gaza and Lebanon.
A man arrested on gun possession charges near a Donald Trump rally in California on Saturday, said that he was a major supporter of the former US president and would never harm him. “Yes, I’m 100% a Trump supporter,” the man, Vem Miller, told Fox News Digital in an interview.
If Donald Trump wins the election, he is expected to pursue a spree of executions that could fast-track the cases of people on federal death row, and threaten the life of a man with a longstanding innocence claim. Advocates for people on death row fear a second Trump term could be worse than his first, which saw an unprecedented 13 federal executions. Under Trump, more people incarcerated in the federal system were put to death than under the previous 10 presidents combined, a staggering number that raised grave human rights concerns.

In a recent judgment, a Chinese graduate student, Fengyun Shi, 26, was sentenced to six months in prison for operating a drone near the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia, capturing images of U.S. Navy vessels that are still in design and contain classified systems. This incident occurred in January of this year, and the court’s ruling came on the 15th of October.

According to court records, Shi was piloting the drone outside the shipyard’s gates when it became lodged in a tree belonging to a nearby residence. The SD card retrieved from the drone revealed footage of both active-duty Navy ships and vessels intended for future naval use.

Brian Dugan, the FBI agent overseeing the case, stated, “Our adversaries are eager to learn what we are building. Our job is to stay one step ahead.”

Shi was charged under the Espionage Act for violating prohibitions against photographing military facilities. On July 8, he pleaded guilty to two out of six charges: prohibiting the photography of military installations and operating an unregistered drone within defense airspace. The other four charges were dropped by the Justice Department.

For the two counts he admitted to, he received a sentence of six months, which will run concurrently. Huntington Ingalls Industries, the company operating the shipyard, expressed satisfaction with the ruling, thanking law enforcement for their thorough investigation and for safeguarding “vital national security installations.”

The company commented, “We appreciate the careful sentencing by the court in this national security matter and are pleased that Mr. Shi has been sentenced to six months in federal prison. We believe that drones like his undermine our ability to protect the airspace over the shipyard and jeopardize our work for the nation.”

Prosecutors outlined that on January 6, Shi operated his drone in inclement weather after renting a vehicle upon arriving in Virginia, ultimately capturing images of Navy ships before the drone got stuck in a tree nearby. Testimony submitted by the FBI indicated that a local resident took photos of Shi along with his identification and driver’s license before alerting local authorities.

On October 16, 2023, a significant milestone was achieved with the successful inaugural journey of the 2024 Ulaanqab Central Asia-EU freight train’s Eastern Corridor. This train, loaded with 55 boxes of electrical appliances, departed from the Qisumuyuan District in Ulaanqab, Inner Mongolia. Its route will take it through the Manzhouli Port and ultimately to the Shelepdino Station in Moscow, Russia.

During an interview, representatives from the Ulaanqab Central Asia-EU freight train operations emphasized that this journey marks the first trip along the Eastern Corridor for the current year, specifically referring to the path through Manzhouli Port. This development signifies the successful establishment of a new trade route for the Ulaanqab Central Asia-EU freight train service.

Since launching its first freight train to Europe in 2016, Ulaanqab has connected with eight countries, including Russia and Belarus, and has established delivery points in 18 cities, such as Moscow, Yekaterinburg, and Almaty. As of 2024, the service has completed a total of 806 train trips, with a combined cargo value reaching an impressive $1.526 billion.

On October 15, 2023, the organizing committee for the 2024 China Squash Open held a press conference to announce the highly anticipated return of the tournament to Shanghai after a five-year hiatus. This year’s event will feature 48 players from 13 countries and regions competing over five days for the men’s and women’s singles championships and a total prize pool of $142,500.

Known as the “king of indoor sports,” squash is celebrated for its fast-paced action and dynamic ball trajectories, sharing similarities with sports like badminton and tennis. The China Squash Open is one of the stops on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour and represents the highest level of professional squash competition in mainland China. Nadal’s physical problems culminated in last year’s hip surgery. As he prepared for that operation, Nadal warned that 2024 was likely to be his final year as a player.

He clearly enjoyed playing again, working each day with his team to fulfil their goals, battling in matches and travelling with his family.
In the end Nadal’s body, and some brutal tournament draws, played a significant role in his decision and he referred to not being “able to play without limitations” during the past two years as a major factor. He had been hopeful of performing well at the French Open and the Olympics, held at Roland Garros. At the French Open, his hopes of gradually building his level were ended when he drew the eventual finalist, Alexander Zverev, in the first round. He then suffered a thigh injury days before the Olympics, where he lost in the second round to the eventual gold medallist, and his old rival, Djokovic.
Nadal has not competed since his doubles run alongside Carlos Alcaraz came to an end at Paris 2024 and his career now has only one official stop left. After a lucrative exhibition in Saudi Arabia alongside other top players, Nadal will end his career in front of his home crowd at the Davis Cup finals, beginning on 19 November in Málaga.
“I am very excited that my last tournament will be the final of the Davis Cup and representing my country,” he said. “I think I’ve come full circle since one of my first great joys as a professional tennis player was the Davis Cup Final in Seville in 2004.

The companies were inducted into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony presided over by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the BOI, Mr. Olasupo Olusi, in Lagos at the weekend.
Speaking during the induction, Olusi said it was part of activities lined up by the BoI to round off Customer Service Week, which was commemorated nationwide last week.
“We proudly honour our Hall of Fame inductees for their resilience in managing credit risk. These customers have exemplified outstanding commitment and trust, embodying what it means to be resilient and driving success alongside us,” he explained.
He described the companies as pillars of excellence, saying that the bank and the companies would remain partners in progress.
Techno Oil and the other companies got the recognition for what was described as their high ethical standards and integrity in their business operations in the face of current challenges in the economy.
The companies were lauded for repaying loans granted to them on schedule and showing outstanding character in repaying various credit facilities granted to them over the years.
Speaking after the induction of Techno Oil into the Hall of Fame, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Techno Oil, Mrs. Nkechi Obi, described the recognition as another honour for the Techno Oil Group.
She said that Techno Oil had maintained an unwavering commitment to ethical operations, integrity, safety and flawless operational standards since it commenced operations.
Obi said that the company would continue to add value to its customers and stakeholders and also sustain its position as Nigeria’s leading player in the downstream.
According to her, the induction into the BoI Hall of Fame will spur the company to do more for the growth and development of the Nigerian economy.
“We will sustain our position as Nigeria’s number one energy solutions provider and keep our vision and mission as an ethical company,’’ Obi said.
Techno Oil, founded in 1997, has more than 500 employees with operational offices in different parts of the country.

However, the company’stotal assetsstood at N362.5 billion as ofSeptember 30, 2024, an increase of 62 per cent fromN223.4 billion in 2023.
Also,hareholders’funds closed September 2024 atN105 billion, upby 82per centfrom N57.9 billionreported in2023full financial year.
Commenting on the results, MD/CEO, Transcorp Power, Peter Ikengain a statementattributed the Q3 2024 performanceit to a strategic vision, hard work, and relentless pursuit of operational excellence.
He said,“Despite the distribution and transmission infrastructural challenges faced in the Power Sector, Transcorp Power has once again demonstrated exceptional financial growth, as reflected in our impressive results.
“We continue to strive to bridge the energy gap in Nigeria, in line with our purpose to improve lives. I am proud to report that we have sustained our remarkable growth trajectory and maintained our position as a leading contributor to the country’s power sector, accounting for approximately 10per centof total power generated on the national grid.
“As the market transitions into the bilateral contracts, as contained in the Electricity Act, we are optimistic about sustaining the momentum by capitalizing on more strategic investment opportunities and providing additional value to our shareholders.”
In response to the results, the Chief Financial Officer, Transcorp Power, Evans Okpogoro, expressed strong confidence in the company’s financial trajectory, stating:

It’s full of holes, lacks nuance and feels flabby – but the excellent performances, as well as the tense and twisty plotting, make this frothy tale a compelling watch
Rebecca NicholsonSun 6 Oct 2024 22.00 BSTShareDespite its daftness, I was fond of the first series of Showtrial, which took the death of a working-class student at a posh university and used it to explore themes of privilege and justice in the British legal system. Viewers liked it, too: it was brash, popular Sunday night fare, an airport novel of a TV series that pirouetted around credibility yet dragged you in with its relentless twists. It returns for a second, starrier season with a similarly over-the-top sensibility – and yet again I have been sucked in, despite the nagging presence of a firmly raised eyebrow during large sections of each of its five episodes.
This time, it has dipped into its grab-bag of headlines and come up with a story about the tactics of climate activism, offensive police WhatsApp group chats and online conspiracy theories. It may leave the impression that it is spinning too many plates, but the plot is captivating and once again touches on the class tensions within British society. Moving from Bristol to Brighton, it examines the legal process behind a newsworthy murder charge, this time thrown at a serving police officer, dragging the audience into yet another us-and-them, upstairs-downstairs scenario.
Marcus Calderwood (Barney Fishwick) is the wealthy founder of the activist group Stop Climate Genocide, which has made many enemies with its road-blocking protests. Calderwood is knocked off his bicycle and left to die in a ditch; as he breathes his last, he manages to issue a dying statement to a paramedic, naming a police officer as the man who deliberately ran him off the road. Michael Socha plays a blinder as PC Justin Mitchell, the man known initially as Officer X, who denies playing any part in Calderwood’s death, but he sure has done a lot of things that suggest he has something to hide. Mitchell is arrogant, charismatic and, crucially, an insider who understands the system, having experienced it on the frontline. He runs rings around the superior officers who question him and is surprisingly chipper, considering the enormous amount of circumstantial evidence pointing a finger in his direction.
But the important detail here is that it is all circumstantial evidence, at least in the early stages of the investigation. Unlike straight police procedurals or legal dramas, Showtrial likes to dig into the complex details of the case. Mitchell requests the services of the defence solicitor Sam Malik (Adeel Akhtar, turning up his cerebral Eeyore routine to impeccable effect), who is known for getting unpalatable clients off on seemingly unbeatable charges. Mitchell, who is carried by a strong sense of right and wrong even though he feels that the system is not fit for purpose, recognises that he needs to be defended by “the most annoyingly persistent little twat you’ll ever meet”. The question of due process is examined repeatedly, as Malik argues that everyone, even the most odious of criminals, is entitled to a defence. He upholds the values of “reason, logic and basic morality”, he tells his son, who in return suggests that, in the age of outrage, his values are relics of a bygone era.
The performances are strong – often stronger than the script. The need for each character to come with a truckload of personal trauma, in addition to their professional woes, compounds the sense that it could do with trimming the fat. Malik is an insomniac with serious mental health issues, while his counterpart at the Crown Prosecution Service, Leila Hassoun-Kenny (Nathalie Armin), has a demanding half-sister and a mother who is a semi-famous academic and French Marxist philosopher. Who, among us, cannot relate to that? There are a few holes, too, in its ambitious patchwork of problems.
It can feel like having a series of opinion pieces quoted at you. It tends towards the broad, too: poshos believe in the climate crisis, salt-of-the-earth coppers are sexist boozehounds. (One climate activist calls the Guardian “fake allies”, so there goes the five-star review.) There is a convoluted, perhaps disingenuous, reason given for Mitchell’s animosity towards Stop Climate Genocide, which appears to hint at protesters blocking ambulances – although even the divisive Just Stop Oil has a “blue lights” policy, in theory allowing emergency vehicles through – but then it backs away and comes up with a more garbled story involving a driver’s lack of experience on a smaller road, which they wouldn’t have been driving on had they not been diverted away from the motorway by a protest. This is a butterfly effect too far.
Even so, there is plenty to enjoy about Showtrial. It is a frothy thriller that wrangles with big questions; it is tense and twisty; and Socha and Akhtar, in particular, make it a compelling watch.
