During a press conference on October 14, Lu Daliang, the spokesperson for the General Administration of Customs of China, shared insights on the country’s export performance. He noted that China’s share of the global export market is steadily increasing, reflecting strong resilience in its export activities.
Lu highlighted recent data from various economies, which suggests a consistent rise in China’s overall export market share. He emphasized that this trend encompasses a wide range of products, from furniture and home appliances to larger goods like ships and containers, all of which have seen varying degrees of growth in global market shares.
According to official statistics, China’s export value in September, when measured in renminbi, grew by 1.6% year-over-year, marking the sixth consecutive month of year-on-year growth, although the pace has slowed down somewhat.
In addressing the slowdown, Lu attributed it to extreme weather conditions during September. He also pointed out that global shipping disruptions, container shortages, and ongoing contract negotiations for port workers on the U.S. East Coast have caused adjustments in companies’ shipping and logistics operations. Additionally, the high baseline from the previous year has further hindered the growth rate for September’s exports. He reassured that this deceleration in year-on-year growth is simply a normal fluctuation in short-term data.
Lu concluded by reiterating that China’s position within the global supply chain remains strong. A recent survey conducted by the General Administration of Customs among over 800 major exporting companies revealed that 69% reported expectations of stable or increased export levels in the fourth quarter.
