On October 17, during a speech at the 2024 Astana International Forum, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that resolving the Ukraine crisis through peaceful means is the only viable solution.
According to the presidential office’s website, Tokayev spoke about the urgency of finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict. He stated, “If we don’t pursue peace, this war will lead both sides to destruction. While some forces in the world may be interested in a different outcome, that path leads to a deep abyss.”
Tokayev underscored the importance of supporting international proposals for peace in Ukraine, specifically highlighting initiatives put forth by China and Brazil. He remarked that striving for peace through constructive dialogue is not a sign of weakness, but rather a prudent strategy.
In a meeting with visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on September 16, Tokayev reiterated the existing opportunity for peace between Russia and Ukraine, mentioning that the peace initiatives from China and Brazil deserve backing.
On May 23, China and Brazil jointly released a “six-point consensus” advocating for a political solution to the Ukraine crisis, stating that “dialogue and negotiation are the only feasible paths to resolving the Ukraine crisis.”
